The Inlet Seafood Restaurant Review -
It’s
little wonder that "On The Inlet"
Seafood Restaurant Port Douglas is a
world famous dinning destination. With
the magnificent view across the Coral
Sea to the rainforest mountains it’s a
spectacular slice of paradise. As boats
bob in calm waters and the fans whirl
overhead you could easily get swept
away. Of course, if you start off with a
couple of marguerites, you’ll
definitely be in the mood. |
From
high noon each day "On The Inlet"
Restaurant invite their
patrons to kick back and soak up the
ambience and special style of their unique
sanctuary. With delicacies from Neptune’s
larder, (mud crabs, crayfish, barra and
more), vegetarian dishes and suitably luxe
cocktails, it is a Port Douglas ‘must
do’.
Not
surprisingly, the menu is a grand tour of
FNQ’s famous treasure trove of ocean
delights. However, the kitchen crew have a
well won reputation for great daily
specials. Their chicken avocado fetta filo
with roast pumpkin, field mushroom and
spinach salad is one such example. Indeed,
non seafood diners are catered for with
superb eye fillet and chicken dishes and an
array of intelligently crafted Asian
influenced specials. (Really, you’d have
to eat there every day to fully appreciate
the scope of it.)
Speaking
of which, their fresh fish of the day is the
stuff of legend. The locally caught gold
band snapper, pan fried on a purple conga
mash with radicchio, pear, walnut, blue
cheese salad and honey mustard dressing,
just about knocked me out.
Clearly,
special is the key word here, and it rarely
gets more special than sunset at "On The
Inlet Seafood Restaurant". For a start there’s the locals’
favourite, the famously generous ‘bucket
of prawns’, (another must), and, at
approximately 5.15pm every evening the
resident entertainer George the Groper
performs his daily feeding ritual to the
delight of the crowd. (All comers are well
fed at "On The Inlet Restaurant", even the fish.)
All
of this makes it easy to understand why On
The Inlet is an award winning restaurant. In
fact they’ve even won awards for their
wine list, which is not merely expansive but
intelligently matched to their cuisine.
There
is no better place to be as the sun sinks
slowly behind Mossman Gorge Mountains. The
kitchen crew know they’ve got a struggle
on their hands to get your attention away
from the view, which is no doubt why they
set out to overwhelm you with FNQ’s best
seafood. "On
