Rehab Cafe Port Douglas, we all need a break from reality, so why not check yourself into Re:hab. Everyone’s doing it these days; and it’s not hard to see why, because Port’s newest café-cum-music bar internet cafe has the freshest coffee, the coolest vibe and viciously evil treats.
Okay, so cafes with net kiosks and wireless access are not exactly revolutionary, but the freaks in re:hab have stumbled onto something. The moment you check in you’ll feel it.
You’ll also smell it. Yes, that’s fresh coffee in the air. The head honchos scoured the country looking for a blend that they would “drive an extra five kilometres for” and after months of false starts they found Coffee Supreme, a New Zealand company with a roastery in Melbourne.
The Supreme ethos is to use only the best Arabica beans and to use them fresh; that is, within ten days of roasting. The result is coffee without bitterness, coffee with a deep, almost nutty taste, lovely complexities and a simply heady aroma. And the punters are voting with their feet, meaning that re:hab’s baristas are on their feet until 10pm each night.
“Some people call us coffee snobs,” one of them told me, “and yeah, we are. We just don’t think there’s much excuse for bad coffee.” Having enjoyed the buzz of several long macchiatos I am certainly inclined to agree.
An American tourist I sat next to told me he’d spent the majority of his vacation in re:hab, hinting it had something to do with nougat. Curious, I drifted to the counter and sampled.
They don’t have a great deal to eat in re:hab, but their biscotti and cake selection from Port Douglas Catering and Cakes By Carrie is spot on. However, it is the gluten free friands that star. If you break your diet just once in FNQ, do it for the friands.
Of course you could spend your time in re:hab reading Port’s funkiest little mag, re:port, (yes, there is a connection), or you could get your daily Facebook fix at town’s bestest, sexiest, quickest net kiosk. It seems that just about everyone else is; and who can blame them. Top shelf coffee, evil sweet treats, cool tunes and a vibe you only ever get in a genuinely great little café. (Cute staff too … but you didn’t hear me say that.)
Looks like it’s high time to check yourself in, folks.

This place is awesome, the coffee is fantastic, it is the perfect place to sit and chat or just watch the world go by… When I came home I told everyone I had been in Rehab, they didn’t seem surprised however!

Despite the way out of date lounge music, this place is great. Easily the best coffee in Port Douglas. Great place to hang.
